March is Women’s History Month, and we are proud to recognize women who continue to make a difference in the community. Alabama State Representative, Laura Hall won re-election in 2018 with 86% of the vote, and she is the first African-American woman elected to represent house District 19 in Montgomery. Representative Hall has chaired the Governor’s commission on A.I.D.S, and served as chairperson of the Alabama House of Representatives Black Caucus. She spent over 30 years as an educator with 25 of those served at J.O. Johnson High School in Huntsville. She is compassionate, and she works hard for all of her constituents. Today we proudly acknowledge Alabama State Representative, Laura Hall for Women’s History Month.

Cynthia Joiner is a native of Huntsville, and an award winning Real Estate professional who is known nationally as one of the most successful and respected in the field. Mrs. Joiner utilizes the latest technologies, market research and business strategies to exceed expectations to make sure her clients are treated with the utmost respect. A humanitarian who is very compassionate about people, she served in non-profit management for 10 years before following her heart’s desire in Real Estate. Cynthia loves giving back to the Huntsville community, and has inspired so many people. Cee Cee McDonald is a native of Huntsville, and the founder of CeeCee & Company, a premier ladies boutique that carries ladies fashion in sizes small-to-3x, handbags & jewelry. Cee Cee has an entrepreneurial spirit, and has operated several businesses. She is a master nail technician, and expanded her Nail Salon in the late 1990’s to include a handbag and jewelry boutique. As the years went by, Cee Cee pushed the envelope by operating two local businesses; Cee Cee & Co. Nail Salon & Barbershop (2012-2015) and Pieces Thrift Store (2013-2015). Cee Cee is multi-talented, and has created a brand that is sure to be around for a long-time. We are proud of her, and today we recognize the success of Ms. Cee Cee McDonald for Women’s History Month.

Karen Stanley is a native of Huntsville, and the Vice President of Finance at Stanley Construction Company. A graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Karen was also named to the Alumni Association Board of Directors. She has shown leadership in alumni engagement at Vanderbilt, and served as Chair of the External Advisory Board for the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Ms. Stanley says that she is “A lifelong learner”. She is deeply passionate about education, engineering, and business leadership. Karen Stanley is a former Vice-Chair for Small Business at the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce, where she instituted the inclusion of Small Businesses in the first Huntsville Regional Economic Growth Campaign in 2004. We are so happy for her continued success, and today we are pleased to recognize @KarenStanley for Women’s History Month.

Margo Gray is an award winning journalist, and the evening news anchor at WAFF-48. A native of Kingston, Jamaica she was raised in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Margo has covered major stories in the area to include the April 2011 tornado outbreak, and the University of Alabama-Huntsville workplace shooting. Margo is a philanthropist, and loves giving back to the Tennessee Valley. A few community events she has participated in are the Delta Sigma Theta CNAA – ‘Rouge Heart Health Go-Red’ fundraiser, and she has also served as host for the MLK Day Unity Breakfast. She is a certified etiquette instructor, and the founder of Etiquette Essentials by Margo. An energetic and pleasant woman who is making a difference in the community. We are proud to acknowledge Margo Gray for Women’s History Month.

Alice Sams is a highly-respected resident of Madison County who has served faithfully, and given back so much. Ms. Sams held the position of president of the Huntsville-Madison County NAACP, and received the William Hooper Council Distinguished Alumni Award for her body of work from Alabama A&M University. She has served as a member of a number of civic and community organizations, including North Huntsville Community United for Action, Department of Human Resources (DHR) and the Director of Project FOCUS. She has worked with ex-offenders to help them secure their GED’s, offering job training and providing employment opportunities. Her involvement in the community has been noticed by receipt of a number of awards such as; the Ruby Hurley Award, Medgar Evers Award and Alabama State NAACP President’s Award, Huntsville Alumni Chapter Humanitarian Award, and XI Omicron Chapter Citizen of the Year Award. Resolution No. 16-357 was drafted in her honor by the Huntsville City Council in 2016 for all that she has done. A consummate professional, she always serves with zeal and enthusiasm. A graduate of Florida A&M University, she has also been an adjunct professor in Mass Communications. Her public service efforts are recognized too, as Demetria always finds time to engage with the community. She is a member of the Junior League, and also a Foundation Board Member for the EarlyWorks Children’s Museum. Demetria is an advocate for healthy living. Her commitment to help others optimize their mental health is also well documented. A Chicago native, she is proud to call the Tennessee Valley home. Today we are thrilled to recognize Demetria Green, as we celebrate Women’s History Month.

Dr. Patricia Sims is the President of Drake State Community and Technical College in Huntsville. She previously was the Director of Student Services Management. A champion of education, she is always available to assist those in need. Dr. Patricia Sims continues to provide top-notch leadership to Drake State Community and Technical College, and today we recognize her for being a positive force in the community.

Kim started PROJECTXYZ Inc. in 2002, a company that was named the US Chamber of Commerce Women-Owned Business of the Year. Kim has served as Board President of Health Establishment at Local Schools (HEALS, Inc.), she was selected to the board of the National Children’s Advocacy Center, and was also the first African-American Female Chair of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce. She has also held a number of other leadership roles, including seats on the boards of the Chamber Foundation, Public Affairs Research Council of North Alabama , Huntsville Botanical Garden, the Huntsville Hospital Foundation, Huntsville Committee of 100, and Calhoun Community College. She is an entrepreneur and trailblazer. Today, we proudly recognize Kim Caudle-Lewis for Women’s History Month.

Dr. Claudette Owens is the First Lady of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, AL. She is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She has been recognized for her activism and advocacy with an array of awards. Dr. Claudette Owens is about helping people, and it is evident in her outstanding community service efforts. Dr. Owens holds a number of technical and biblical degrees, to include a B.S. degree in Engineering, Master’s and PhD in Physics, Master’s in Biblical Studies and Divinity, and a Doctorate in Ministry. Her two-fold philosophy of life is ” to be a pure and sincere ambassador for Christ, and to help somebody along the way”. A retired Director of Operations for the Future Warfare Center, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (USASMDC), today we recognize a pioneering trailblazer, Dr. Claudette Owens for Women’s History Month.

Martin is the Community Affairs representative and Board Chair for the Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB). She recently was presented with the prestigious Pineapple Award for her contributions to the hospitality sector. A long-time careerist with the city, Brenda was the first African-American woman appointed to the Mayor’s Senior Staff. Ms. Martin also served as the inaugural Director of Multicultural Affairs, for the City of Huntsville. Brenda Martin is always seeking opportunities which allow her to be active in professional and local community organizations. Dr. Dawkins Harvey is an active member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women (NCBW) – Greater Huntsville Chapter. She serves as the organizations 2nd Vice President of Finance, and Fund Development. Dr. Sandra Dawkins Harvey is a leader who loves advocating and empowering on behalf of black women and girls. A winner of music awards for her immense talent, she was also nominated by the Alabama Music Awards as club host of the year. Ms. Joyce is the founder of ‘A Place 2 Dance’, which evolved into ‘Perfect Praise Ministry’. Ms. Anderson is so dedicated to everything that she does, and she has such a sweet spirit. Her hard work has earned her a number of awards over the years. Not only is she known for her prowess in dance, but she is also the owner of Illusions, a beauty salon specializing in natural hair care. Her journey to success is rooted in faith, resilience, and passion. Joyce “Pebbles” Anderson continues to inspire and uplift those who cross her path. Dr. Coretta Gholston discovered her passion for a lifelong career in education while completing her practicums, and pursuing a Master of Education degree in Secondary English from Alabama A&M University. She believes that teaching was a true “calling from God” for her life. When she obtained her Master of Education degree, she desired to continue learning in the field of Education. Hence, she enrolled at Argosy University to pursue a Doctor of Education Degree in Instructional Leadership. Dr. Gholston obtained her doctoral degree in April 2014. Furthermore, Dr. Gholston has a wealth of knowledge and experience in several capacities in Education: Professional Tutor, English Teacher, Educational Consultant and Educational Specialist. Currently, Dr. Gholston is the Dual Enrollment Specialist and an English Instructor at Alabama A&M, where she believes and exemplifies AAMU’s motto, “Service is Sovereignty.” Dr. Coretta Gholston is an extraordinary leader and servant, and today we are pleased to recognize her as we celebrate Women’s History Month.

Dr. Henderson also has an extensive background in higher education centered on student success, retention, recruitment, job placement, college transfer, admissions, advising, degree audit, testing, curriculum development, teaching, supervisory skills, budget management, grants management, and other industry recognized accreditation. Since its launch, Mocktails for Mommy has captured the hearts of consumers across the United States, becoming a beloved brand for those seeking sophisticated alcohol free options. Her products have been featured in notable establishments around the country. Guided by her faith and the motto “Changing the world one mocktail at a time,” Ashley remains dedicated to her mission, providing inclusive and celebratory experiences through her innovative products. Her journey reflects her resilience, passion, and commitment to redefining the non-alcoholic beverage industry. Today, we are happy to recognize Dr.Ashley Hunt Poole for Women’s History Month.

She danced with the Huntsville Ballet Company and then attended the University of Alabama on a Dance/Theatre scholarship. Her choreography was featured as a finalist in the Southern Association of Colleges in Dance choreography competition, and she’s had many lead and supporting roles in theatre/musical theater productions. She danced professionally for the world renowned PHILADANCO!, touring and working with nationally renowned artists. She’s choreographed for various companies and studios across the nation to thousands of children and adults. Kristen has been teaching and choreographing for over 20 years. Additionally, she has served as stage manager for many dance and theater productions across the nation. Kristen Wilson travels across the U.S. attending conventions with the Element Huntsville team, learning and developing from leading industry artists. Today, we are happy to recognize her for Women’s History Month.

She has successfully turned this wonderful sip and paint business into a friendly gathering spot, where anyone can come to celebrate special occasions, meet for a night out or just relax while sipping-n-painting the night away. Marie interacts and connects with people from all walks of life, and she never meets a stranger. She is always willing to lend a helping hand, and contributes to a number of worthwhile causes in the community. Her philanthropic and charitable works have helped so many. Marie holds many non-profits near and dear to her heart like Sydney’s Hope Foundation, which gives opportunities and scholarships to children with childhood illness. Marie Troupe is doing so many wonderful things, and she is extremely excited about the future. Today, we are happy to recognize Marie Troupe for her many accomplishments as we celebrate Women’s History Month.
