94.1 WHRP – CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH
2/1 Billy Jackson is currently the longest serving member of the Decatur City Council. A native of the “River City”, he is a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Councilman Jackson was elected to represent District 1, but is a staunch advocate for all of the citizens in the city. Some of his City Council assignments include that of the Community Development Department, which is tasked to stabilize lower income neighborhoods and to promote economic empowerment. The Councilman also works in conjunction with Decatur Youth Services,
fostering and supporting a community-wide effort to address the challenges that face the youth of the city.
A proud graduate of Alabama A&M University, we are happy to recognize this outstanding pioneer for his work. Decatur City Councilman Billy Jackson, we thank you for your tireless contributions and for your dedicated service.

2/2 Maurice Wright II is the Servant Pastor of the St John AME Church in Huntsville. He leads God’s People at the historic edifice that has been a staple of the Huntsville community for more than 140 years. The Pastor is the embodiment, and a true example of what it is to be a leader of God’s people. A loving family man, he is blessed to have Reverend Joretha Wright as his partner in marriage. They are happy to be the parents of four wonderful children. Pastor Wright is an amazing advocate who has served God’s people throughout Huntsville, and in various positions in the AME Church. He has presided as the Connectional Director of Music and Christian Arts of the African Methodist Episcopal Church worldwide. And, Pastor Wright has also served as the co-director of Evangelism, and the Chairman of Finance for the 9th Episcopal District. A strong, resilient and zealous leader, we are astounded by his many accomplishments. We are proud to recognize this Morehouse man, Maurice Wright II for Black History Month.

Michelle Watkins is the first Black Woman to be elected to the Huntsville City Council, winning the District (1) runoff last September. Pledging to work hard for the people in the city, Michelle is filled with complete gratitude. She previously served on the Huntsville City School Board, also representing District (1). During her tenure on the Board, she saw improvement of student reading scores, and provided continued mentoring opportunities to students promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) throughout North Huntsville Schools. A longtime community advocate, she works passionately to get things done for the city she loves. Councilwoman Michelle Watkins excelled in her role as a member of the Huntsville City School Board, and continues to do the same on the Huntsville City Council. She is creating a legacy that is HISTORIC!!! We proudly acknowledge her for being a positive force, and a voice working to make Huntsville a stronger and more unified community.

Marc Lacy is an award winning poet who is gifted with the ability of utilizing words, writing pointed dissertations and conveying meaningful language. An Alumnus of Alabama A&M University, he is a wordsmith who has not only written books, but has headlined literary and spoken word events all across the country. Marc is a popular DJ, and actor who has been featured in a number of television commercials. He has created a HISTORIC legacy by speaking truth-to-power via his social media blogs. Mr. Lacy empowers and lifts others with his words of inspiration, motivation and positivity. A former AAMU Bulldog basketball star, he credits his faith in God and love of family for providing the energy he needs to succeed. A major influencer and humble servant in our community, we are blessed to have Marc Lacy here in the Huntsville area. We are so happy to recognize him for Black History Month.

Pammie Jimmar is the President of the Athens-Limestone Chamber of Chamber. A hardworking and amazing public servant, she cares so deeply about the community she serves. In a recent television interview, Ms. Jimmar said one thing she really is focusing on, is getting businesses back on track after the recent EF-1 tornado in the city of Athens. She went on to say, that since the Athens-Limestone area is growing, that she would like to see our young professionals prepared to lead the Athens-Limestone area in the future. Pammie Jimmar is also a member of the Chamber National Board of Trustees. As a member of the trustees, she helps strategic direction, and takes an active role in advancing standard operating and curriculum policies for the Institute for Organization Management (IOM). Being affiliated with the illustrious IOM, gives Ms. Jimmar an opportunity to be a part of the premier nonprofit developmental program for association and chamber professionals, fostering individual growth through interactive learning and networking opportunities. Ms. Pammie Jimmar is building a legacy that is HISTORIC, and today we are so happy to recognize her for Black History Month.

Ronnie Hawkins is a U S. Army Veteran, and a retired Federal Government employee whose selfless years of service earned him a number of honors in his illustrious career. A former Vice President of the Huntsville Chapter of Blacks In Government (BIG), Ronnie assisted the organization in its mission to ensure that equity, excellence and opportunity was afforded to all employees. He was, and continues to be a mentor, role-model and a leader in the community. He actively volunteers supporting non-profit organizations, as well as local charities, especially those that assist children and senior citizens. A natural leader, Mr. Hawkins was able to enhance those skills during his 30! years of service in the Army. A few of his other affiliations include being a Disabled American Veterans (DAV), a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., past President of the Members Only Social Club, being a member of the American Legion, and a Life Member of the NAACP. Ronnie Hawkins has truly carved out an amazing historic legacy he can be proud of, and today we are honored to recognize him for Black History Month.

Quisha Bryant, Esq. is the Parking and Public Transit Director for the City of Huntsville. A consummate professional, she oversees improvements to the transportation system in the city. Quisha continues to carve out her historic legacy in her hometown, contributing to make the mass transit system the best it can be. A natural born leader, Quisha is focused on keeping the two main modes of public transit moving. The Orbit fixed routes, which are the fixed bus routes falls under her control. She also manages the cities’ paratransit service, Access Huntsville, which picks up passengers at their door. A graduate of Tennessee State University, she also earned her law degree at John Marshall Law School. Quisha Bryant has a broad spectrum of experience, as she has also served as the Deputy Executive Director of the Huntsville Housing Authority for the City of Huntsville. Her passion is family, and Quisha Bryant has the primary goal of helping people. Today we are honored to recognize this hardworking and dedicated public servant for Black History Month

Otis Smith known affectionately as Big O – “The Mayor of Soul”, established himself as a legendary voice in the Huntsville radio market. A Vietnam veteran who served in the U.S. Army, his love of radio began with a stint at the Armed Forces Radio Network. A native of Memphis, TN, Big O is happy to call Huntsville home. An incredible human being, his historic broadcast career is defined by his zeal, excitement and passion for the radio industry. Big O never meets a stranger, and connects with people from all different walks of life. We celebrate our friend, Otis Smith aka “Big O”. He is a broadcast legend in the Tennessee Valley, and today we are beyond excited to recognize him for Black History Month

Rev. Dr. Clarence M. Johnson is Pastor of the historic Poplar Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Athens, AL. He leads a church that has served God’s people for some 140 years. The Pastor is an educator, encourager, and an effective leader who assumed the pastorship at Poplar Creek more than 30 years ago. He is a community advocate who has helped feed the hungry, lead the lost and prepare God’s People with powerful words of hope. A U.S. Army Veteran, he voluntarily served our country with both honor and dignity. His wife Donna has been a wonderful source of support, and they have an amazing family. Rev. Dr. Johnson has also served in a teaching capacity at the illustrious Huntsville Bible Institute, and is committed to teaching the Word of God to all. He is continuing to create a legacy that is historic, and is always humble when helping others!!! We are proud to recognize Rev. Dr. Clarence M. Johnson for Black History Month.
