Ocie Maddox Jr. is a passionate media professional dedicated to preserving and sharing Black history. With a deep appreciation for cultural heritage, he contributes to WHRP 94.1 FM station by presenting Black History Facts, shedding light on significant yet often overlooked stories. His segments offer listeners a richer understanding of the contributions and experiences of African Americans throughout history. His roots are a testament to his passion for black history and its impact on culture. Born in Birmingham, AL, and raised in Huntsville, AL, he attended Ed White Middle School and later graduated from Johnson High School.
His first encounter with entrepreneurship was introduced to him when he started his first small start-up lawn care at just eight years old. Following high school, Ocie served in the military for two years, gaining discipline and skills that would fuel his future career pursuits. During his tenure, he specialized in supply as Quartermaster and served as a Loading List Specialist.
After his military service, Ocie relocated to Atlanta, where he spent four years working in broadcasting, honing his expertise in media production. Throughout his career, he attended Columbia School of Broadcasting and Computer in Hollywood, where he demonstrated and cultivated his educational knowledge of media in the broadcasting industry, earning him national honors as a student.
Ocie’s commitment to storytelling goes beyond the microphone. Today, he thrives as a versatile media professional, excelling as a videographer, graphic designer, and photographer. His work is defined by a passion for visual storytelling, blending technical skills with a keen artistic eye to create compelling content across various platforms. Many of Ocie’s interests stretch across multiple industries, including venture capitalism/ home analysis, landscape design, professional photography, Electronics (Cleveland Institute of Electronics), and Lifestyle educator/Myo-therapy (Wildwood Institute).
As a videographer, graphic designer, and photographer, he uses his talents to create impactful visuals that complement his educational work, making history accessible and engaging for diverse audiences. His mission is to educate, inspire, and keep the legacy of Black history alive for future generations.
